On 8 September 2018, I released MACG's first hard good, a key chain that is inspired by fish hooks locally called Sagat in Manila.
I designed the Sagat to easily hook on the belt loop of jeans and hang from your pants or shorts' waist band. The first production of the Sagat was hand cut in solid brass, it is intended to be that way since MACG have been into the idea of handcrafted goods. Imperfections were everywhere on the Sagat's debut, which I also intended, because it gives that rustic and rugged feel on the product, combined with our handcrafted leather and cloth goods; it will give that sheen of patina overtime with use.
But when I say "imperfection" it is not something mediocre, it really takes patience to cut 3 to 4mm thick brass using only steel and jewelers saw. The round turns of the Sagat was really a challenge, yet we endured, produced and released the Sagat several times since 2018.
And yet there was still something missing. We opted for CNC, it was the right choice at the moment, we wanted to have MACG's name and Manila Made engraved to the product, giving that identity it deserves, but production cost was an issue with CNC and we looked for other alternatives. Hence we met Marco Magalona of Kustom Mags Creations. We asked his assistance and know-how on die casting, and we created the latest Sagat. We added the wave crest on the top part of the Sagat and subtle teeth on the hook side to give it more texture and depth. Imperfections are still everywhere which is awesome, because each forge will be very different.
